John served as of CEO of the York Region Board of Education, the London and District Board of Education and the Lanark County Board of Education. Prior to achieving these senior positions he spent over thirty years in the field of education including the following positions: Superintendent of Special Education and Student Support Services and Divisional Superintendent of Human Resources with The York Region Board of Education – Education Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education, Principal, Vice-Principal and Teacher.
Since retiring from public education he has been involved as a consultant with both the private and the public sector organizations across Canada and the United States in the areas of strategic planning, operational planning, governance, leadership development, decision-making, research and a supporter of companies conducting feasibility studies. He also is President of his own Executive Search firm, Laughlin Consulting Inc.
Mr. Laughlin holds a Masters of Education Degree from the University of Toronto
and a Bachelor of Arts from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University. He also holds specialists certificates in Special Education, the Cook method of Strategic Planning as well as the Covey approach to leadership.
He has served on several Boards including the Conference Board of Canada,
YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club and was a founding member as both an
educational and corporate partner of the Educational Research Development
Incorporated. This national organization builds and nurtures business /
educational partnerships.
Mr. Laughlin is married and has three children. His wife and three children are all associated with education-related careers.
