Rosemary Smith was born and raised on the Six Nations Reserve. She is a Mohawk woman and of the turtle clan. She has three children, ages 31, 29 and 27. She has also a beautiful grandson, Blake, nine years old.

Rosemary worked on the Six Nations Reserve with Ganohkwa Sra Family Violence Support Services as the first Community Educator and continued on to become a Community Counsellor providing counseling to women and children
affected by family violence.

Rosemary went on to develop, implement and manage the Family Violence
Abuse Awareness Program at St. Leonard’s Society in Brantford. This program
was an educational and awareness program for males that exhibited abusive
behavior, primarily those charged with assault.

Rosemary became active with Brant Victim Services in 1988. Over the years she
served in many capacities with this organization. She served as a Volunteer,
Supervisor, Volunteer Coordinator, Community Coordinator and Executive
Director.
Rosemary left her position as Executive Director with Brant VCARS in 1995 to
become Executive Director with Niagara Victim Crisis Support Service and
develop a Victim Crisis Assistance & Referral Service program in the Niagara
Region.

In 1999, Rosemary became a Victim Service Regional Consultant for the West
Region with the Ministry of Solicitor General & Correctional Services. She was
seconded for a year to the Victim Service Division, Corporate Office with the
Ministry of Attorney General as a Policy/Program Analyst.

In 2002, Rosemary was the Acting Victim Service Regional Consultant for the
Central West Region and has since accepted the position as Manager of the
Victim/ Witness Assistance Program for Brant/Haldimand and Norfolk.

Rosemary was one of the first Trustees to join the Six Nations Development Trust in 2003. She served as Vice Chair for a year and is now serving as the Chair.
