Melba Thomas has been a lifetime resident/member of the Six Nations of the
Grand River Reserve. She was married for 43 years (widowed for 5 years) and
she is the proud mother of 3 sons ages 46, 40 & 40 and foster son aged 35 years.
She has 5 grandchildren ages 4 to 23 years.

Melba has devoted four decades to sitting on numerous boards, committees and volunteering for children and their families including elders. During her 29 years of work she educated, protected, counseled, developed programs and made political decisions in various areas of need throughout the Six Nations Community.
In the 2004 Election of the Six Nations Community Development Trust (SNCDT)
Melba was selected by community members through majority vote. For the past 3 years she has sat on the SNCDT through appointment by the Six Nations Band Council. She presently sits on the personnel, proposal review committee and consistently stresses recognition of culture, tradition and values of the Six Nations people in areas of Community, Economic and Cultural Development along with Education Health.
