Darlene Lafontaine is from the Brunswick House First Nation which is located near Chapleau, On. She obtained her 3 year Accounting Diploma from Cambrian College in Sudbury ON during which time she received the “Peat Marwick Thorne Award of Excellence” in her final year. Darlene has been employed with the Wabun Tribal Council since January 2001 as the Financial Advisor for the organization and it’s member First Nations (7), which are located in Northern Ontario. In August of 1998, Darlene was named one of twenty-five “Influential Women in Northern Ontario” from Northern Ontario Business. In December of 1998, she was also named “Executive of the Year” by Nishnawbe-Aski Development Fund while employed as the Executive Director of Mamo-Wichi- Hetiwin.

Darlene has volunteered on many committees and Boards throughout Ontario and Canada, has served as the President of the Aboriginal Financial Officer’s Association of Ontario, and a Board member of the National Organization. She has also received her designation as a Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) through the National Aboriginal Financial Officer’s Association of Canada. In May of 2007, she was also appointed by the Province of Ontario to the Timmons Police Services Board.

She is an avid reader, loves music, walking, and volunteering. Darlene is a proud married mother of one who is venturing out on his own this year to attend college. She looks forward to the new experiences coming into her life and perhaps becoming even busier in her attempt to address the “empty nest” syndrome.
